Part B
In the lessons we've learned throughout the semester, each contianed a similar objective of informing the reader of the Chinese culture, history, and language. Its important for a student studying Chinese to understand these components because it helps to comprehend the mindsets of the past to see why China is the way it is today. Some lessons had critizied the traditional mentality of the Chinese in order to get rid of the superstitious, stubborn, childish perspectives. This is how the author discribes Chinese people because of traditions for women to bound their feet and how marriages are nothing more than a business negotiation. I felt that most lessons really critcized people because these authors wished to spread word of their message and to avoid trageic moments such as the Cultural Revolution. I feel that as a Chinese American, these lessons provided me with a senese of perspective of how my culture once were and for some still is. Sometimes it may be difficult for me to understand why my grandparents may favor the oldest grandson over their granddaughter but I guess that could be another lesson to be learned. The lessons were well written and was meaningful and I don't think I feel there should be a change to any of the stories. Because these authors were the writers of that time and during that moment in time it was a very important communication tool to inform the public of some of their sinful ways. I feel that I wouldn't add anything because history is set in stone and to add or change any part of their writings would be unneccessary since history has already been established.
